Aspen Academy is a fully-accredited, professionally supervised outdoor therapy program for adolescents, ages 13-17. Enroll your teen during the Winter break to give them a new perspective for the New Year.

We help teens feel part of something larger than themselves so they can get out of their own way and start reaching their full potential.

Mother Nature serves as a natural teacher, reminding us that there is a larger world out there. We cannot be selfish and manipulative in the wilderness - we must work together to create camp, collect wood, and make the campfire. The wilderness teaches us that we are part of a larger community and that our behavior has consequences.

No IPods. No TV. No video games. No chatting in MySpace. Among the beautiful red rock of Southern Utah, teens face their issues, taking, often for the first time in their lives, a truly honest look at who they are and who they want to become.

What Type of Teens Come to Aspen Academy?

Many of our teens have parents who are highly successful and who are alarmed by the direction their teen has started to take. These teens have great potential for success, but their parents see that environmental pressures, school issues, and other factors are undermining their future. These teens might be underachieving in school or showing behavioral problems such as defiance of substance use.

Negative peer groups and other influences often interfere with parental attempts to intervene when a teen has gone astray. Many of our teens' parents are at their wits end, searching for something to wake their teen up and show them that they have the potential to achieve more.

Aspen Achievement Academy is a licensed treatment program that integrates an accredited academic component, a sophisticated therapeutic model, and an experiential education curriculum in a healing wilderness environment. The Academy creates a modern “rite of passage” designed to assist adolescents in making the transition to responsible young adulthood. It guides each participant through a series of powerful metaphors that symbolize stages of growth, provide deeper insight towards developing self-reliance and generate a sense responsibility for self and community. .

Being a teenager is tougher in today's society than it has ever been. The clear-cut rites of a simpler society permitted children to move into adulthood in a natural and predictable way. Today's teenagers and their parents no longer have the benefit of such clear rites and predictable pathways. As a result, even talented young people and well-meaning parents often struggle with a balance between independence and reliance upon families. The remarkable aspect about our innovative outdoor therapy program is its proven ability to allow nature and skilled staff to nurture self-reliance and self-respect, opening up a "rite of passage" to responsible young adulthood.
